Bathrooms From A to Zen

City and Shore Magazine | August 2011

we each have a vision of the ultimate bathroom. is it a spa retreat, like the one you enjoyed on vacation? does it feature an indulgent bath with a deep soaking whirlpool tub and chromatherapy? or is the design over-the-top elegance?

Client's request:

The client, now married, was a bachelor when he hired Wolk to create a bathroom at Trump Royale in Sunny Isles. He wanted multi shower heads and two sinks facing the window to appreciate the oceanfront view.

The situation:

Although this was new construction, the task wasn’t easy because of floor-plan restrictions. The challenge was to create the shower with multi sprays and to deal with the building’s elliptical shape.

The solution:

Wolk picked up on the elliptical shape and designed a curved shower with white pebbles and thick grout on tho floor. The client’s desire for 25 shower sprays, including a rain head, created havoc with the original stucco covering on the shower walls. “The company wouldn’t warranty it/’ Wolk says. “They said the force of the water would be like going through a hurricane every day. We wound up lining it with glass tile.” Because the client wanted sinks facing the window, Wolk suspended the medicine cabinets from the ceiling. The whirlpool tub was elevated in an area with a large flat-screen television. Each wash station also had a small television. Decks and floors are limestone. Wolk designed two dressing rooms with Brazilian cherry floors and matching closet doors. “His" and “Her" water closets each contain a toilet and a bidet. “If you are looking out the window at the sea and the sky. it is almost a color match with the tile. “The sand, the ocean and the sky are the bathroom’s palette. It is a clear example of what can drive a palette.”
